Talmarac Eldenhammer

Hi, I am Talmarac Eldenhammer. You can call me Tal for short. I am a Dwarven Chronomancer. Sort of a Warrior time lord. I am able to manipulate time, not in the way a diviner tells your fortune, but in battle to outmaneuver my foes. I have set out on a personal quest to discover why I have this ability, and write any wrongs that I can. I believe we are all called to greatness, but only a few of us are brave enough to follow. I don't have a lot of social skills, but I am quite skilled. I am also a clocksmith and a miner.

1. How old are you?
100 years old. It was my centennial birth year that has allowed me to finally leave the mine. I am 5ft tall and 155lbs. Yes I know I'm tall for a dwarf, don't tease me about it or i'll cut you shorter then me.

2. Tell me about your family life. Are you parents still alive? Who raised you? Siblings? What do they do?

My dad mines a rare metal called Nephelium. This metal is ferrous like iron and a bit stronger then iron, and transparent. It was used in ages past to imbue armor and weapons with magic because it natural properties have the capacity to hold greater magic in them. These weapons and armors were then used for evil by powerful wizards and the dwarfs stopped mining it. Over time the weapons were either destroyed, or lost. The armors are said to have been locked away deep in dwarven holds. My dad is one of a handful of dwarves that still know how to mine it. When a pocket of Nephelium is found my dad is called to mine it. This is never spoken of and only the master formen know about its existence. The Nephelium is then taken away and stored deep within the mine in an undisclosed location. As far as I know, no one is forging with it. When I left my home to pursue my calling, my dad gave me a waraxe made from Nephelium. He forged it with a black powder to mask its true nature. To the untrained eye it looks like a midnight dark steel. But to a master smith you might be able to identify it as Nephelium. This is the greatest gift he's ever given me.

I am an only child. My mother left when I was a baby. My dad says she was a wandering dwarf, strange but beautiful. She was visiting the mine when she met my dad. They fell in love quickly. I was born a year later. The birth was rough and my mother barely survived. My father told me that she didn't even hold me. Several days passed and she could only stare at me in my stone crib. My father tried encouraging her to just hold me and she would love me. A week after my birth she packed up her things and left. My dad believes she will eventually come back, but I don't share his sentiments. I'm a century old, I do not believe she will come home. I believe she was scared, scared of being tied down. Scared of living below ground for so long. So she ran.

3. Explain your closest relationships, especially those that you've dated or courted. (We all have 'em.)
I have never found love. I've met many dwarven women but have never found one to settle down with. I think I have a bit of my mom's spirit in me. I struggle to open stone heart to others and in turn seem cold, rude, and unapproachable. Love may come some day, but it is not today.

4. What social class are you from? How has that shaped who you are?
I am from the class of Master Craftsmen. I am not of royal blood, but we are respected, and honored for our craft. I have trained under my father in crafting and . . . other things. I found my talent over time when I was the only one to be able to know the exact time of day it was. When we would be working deep in the mine the foreman would ask around for the time and I was correct to the second. I also found a talent in crafting clocks. I soon became known as the clocksmith. I have a knack in crafting small parts out of metal, and for being able to make them keep accurate time. My father helped me in the beginning with smithing the clock parts, and I would be able to set them correctly. Now I do most of it on my own.

5. How did you get started doing what you do now? (Your character class.)
As I talked about above, I've been very in tune with the flow of time since I was born. It wan't till recently that I found that I could actually manipulate the flow of time. I was on a deep dig with my dad mining some Nephelium when a stalactite broke loose above my dad. As I reached out to push him out of the way, I found that everything seemed to slow down. The stalactite slowed its decent and I cleared the space between me and my dad with time to spare. As I grabbed my dad and hauled him to safely, several paces away from the falling stalactite, I could see his movements were slowed. When we reached safety, the world seemed to catch up to me and the stalactite came crashing down. From that moment, I have dabbled with my new powers in my own time. I feel this deep inside that I have been called to do something greater then just mine and make clocks. I don't know what it is, or what I am supposed to do, but I believe it will manifest itself soon.

6. Whois your greatest hero or inspiration?
My dad. It's not easy, or tradition for the male dwarf to raise a kid. But he did, and without complaint. He raised me well. He's taught me to mine, to fight, to take care of myself, and dwarf traditions.

7. What precious items do you carry with you always?
The dwarven waraxe my father gave me. Several Clocks I made.

8. How to religion and prophesy play into your life?
I believe in the gods. I worship miainly Moradin, but what dwarf doesn't. I believe in following my own path, and honoring past dwarves and traditions.

9. What do you feel about magic?
I believe it has a place in this world. I don't dabble in it myself, but understand its place. I do not fear it, or any wizard that wields it. If there ever is a sorcerer thinking of causing me harm, I have no hesitation to cease his existence. Time can be a cruel thing.

10. Tell me about your dealings with the military.
I have done my years in the dwarven military. Like all youngling dwarves, we serve our clan. I believe there are skills every dwarf needs to know, and that is the place to learn them. We must all work together to protect our clan and our mine.

11. Tell me about your run-ins with the law.
I'm a law abiding citizen. But I'm not afraid to step out of the law to do what needs to be done.

12. Who is your greatest confidant?
My father. Most people just don't get me. I have friends, but they are mostly to go drinking with, or on hunting raids. I've never been able to confide in any of them. I think they take me mostly because I'm better with a sword then them, and can keep up with their drinking games.

13. Tell me about someone in your past you'd prefer to avoid. Who, and why?
For a long time I really wanted to meet my mother. As time erodes even the largest mountain, I do not wish to meet her any more. I am who I am, and she would not affect my life any more.

14. When you finally leave this life (hopefully a long time from now), what do you want to have been known for?
I would like to be remembered as someone who made a difference in this world. I would like people to remember me as that dwarf who came to their aid. Like I said, I believe there is a purpose for me and my talents, I just don't know what it is yet. I don't need a statue of me, but I would like a bard to sing a tale or two of me.

15. You see a large bar of gold sitting in the street, and no one else seems to notice it. You think you have a moment before anyone else sees. What do you do?
I walk over and pick it up. I will be able tell by how it was forged and from the seal on it where it came from. I will then take it to its owner. If approached by the city guard I would turn it over to them. I have nothing to hide and nothing to fear. Its a gift and a curse to truly understand time.

16. Which side of the bed do you roll out of? How come?
I roll off whatever side I'm closest to when I wake up. No need to waste any time with silly routines. Just get up and get moving.

17. Of the following choices, choose one at the expense of the rest: WEALTH. POWER. RESPECT. WISDOM. STRENGTH. FRIENDSHIP.
The dwarf inside me wants to choose Wealth and Strength, but my true self would give it all up for WISDOM. Understanding things around me and seeing them for what they are are more valuable to me then jewels and strength.

18. What are you doing here in Resalund?
Two things. One, I am here bringing a shipment of clocks to be sold in the market. 30 years ago I had a great idea to start selling our clocks to the human settlement of Resalund. As I knew it would, they were received with great enthusiasm. I made several very ornate clocks for the royal family the first time we brought them to sell. I knew if we got their blessing on the clocks that the rest of the kingdom would buy them. Now we have a large tent in the market and sell to the common folk. Today I'm here to just restock our market shop. I've made some new clocks that are wearable on your arm. I am wearing several myself. (don't tell anyone, but the glass cover is unscratchable. Its made of Nephelium. I tell everyone that its a tough glass. Humans are so gullible.)
Two, I have started a personal journey. I made a deal with my father. I will leave the mine for 50 years, and in that time if I cannot find my purpose above ground, I will return and continue my craft with him. This alone took him 20 years to agree too. I think he is scared to loose me like my mother.
