Grommisk the Possesed

D&D 5e Campaign (link). I created him to play in a 5e campaign a buddy of mine made for my Birthday. I had so much freaking fun with him. He was a Polearm Master using a Halberd and just tore it up. I absolutely love this character.

Grommisk (Grom for short) the Half-Orc Barbarian born into a clan of evil orcs.

Grom showed uncanny intuition of battle strategy and had a way of positioning his troops to ultimately crush his opponents. This prowess was shown at an early age which led to his ultimate acceptance into the clan. It also gained him a spot as a troop leader. He led the raids that ultimately destroyed Phandalin and wiped out the rich mining town. As years passed and the clan grew and Grom pushed and clawed his way up the chain of command. When he became the orc army leader there were many orcs that didn't agree but Grom outwitted them in battle. Gruumish called on the army to push through the forest and start burning it down.

Grom led his army obediently through the land destroying everything in its wake. They met resistance by a group of Druids, Pegasus and Unicorns. Grom was astonished that the druids and unicorns could put up such a fight. As he was losing many of his army to the nature magic that the opposition possessed, he leads a small strike force through the night to the Unicorns Glade. A sacred grove inhabited by Lurue Goddess of the Unicorns herself. As he approached, he saw Lurue through the trees. She seemed to be sleeping. He possession his men around the glade and gave the signal to attack. They launched themselves from the brush and trees to capture her and take her horn. With that horn they hoped to harness the natural forces and turn them on the druids. Lurue was expecting them and as they launched her attack, she leaped at them piercing them through the hearts, kicking them in the head and crushing all of them. As Grom let his rage consume him, he still could not find purchase with his Halberd. The fighting was brutal and deadly. The orcs fell one by one. It came down to Lurue and Grom. Grom launched a reckless attack to let his long axe feed on her flesh but as he swung she dodged and threw him off balance and used her horn to pierce his heart. Lurue drove her horn clean through Grom's heart pinning him to the ground with his weapons just out of reach. As Grom's heart is beating its last beat, Grom hears Lurue in his mind.

She tells Grom that he is following the wrong path. A path of his father's evil traditions. She tells him that if he promises to turn from that path and follow her in bringing balance to this world that she will spare his life. Not just that, but that she would also give him greater power. With Grom's last breath, he makes a pact with Lurue to follow her and leave his evil life behind. She heals Grom fully but leaves a scar on his chest over his heart. She also leaves a magical tattoo on his shoulder to mark him as her follower and protector.

Early the next morning Grom dismisses what's left of the army to move far north east and to find a new valley to settle down in. He takes them there and then quietly leaves. Taking to the road, Grom follows the path of Lurue bringing balance to the land. Lurue is always there in his mind helping advise him in his new path. If needed, she can take control over his body and strongly encourage him to do the right thing. You may even overhear Grom talking to himself as if he was talking to Lurue.
